Morsi Foundation for Democracy expresses its solidarity with the Bangladeshi people in their quest for freedom and justice. We join them in celebrating the fall of Sheikh Hasina, who represented the head of tyranny in the country.
While this represents a crucial first step, the Egyptian experience from the January Revolution offers valuable lessons. It is vital for the Bangladeshi people to remain united, address the people’s demands, and avoid the pitfalls of division that military and authoritarian regimes often leave in their wake. This is a pivotal moment to set aside ideological and sectarian differences and to work towards a consensus-based transitional period that can pave the way for a democratic system.
Such a transition will require careful coordination, avoiding polarization, and maintaining a revolutionary spirit focused on eradicating corruption within a framework of national unity. This approach is essential to move the country beyond tyranny, corruption, and military oppression. We acknowledge that the transition will be challenging, given the internal and external pressures seeking to restore authoritarianism. The fall of a leader does not signal the end of the struggle.
We urge Bangladeshi national forces and institutions to develop a clear and inclusive roadmap that ends polarization and division, fostering unity towards a democratic future. It is crucial that the sacrifices made are not in vain. By learning from past experiences and mistakes, the Bangladeshi people and their leaders can navigate this historic opportunity more effectively.
Additionally, we caution against the involvement of the military in political matters during this critical phase. The military and security forces should remain separate from political processes and should not interfere in the roadmap.
Once again, we extend our congratulations to the Bangladeshi people on this significant achievement and hope for a smooth transition to democracy.
