Amid anticipation and political tensions... "parliamentary life" in Kuwait stops with the ruling of the Constitutional Court

The Kuwaiti Constitutional Court ruled, “the invalidity of the decree calling for the 2020 National Assembly elections and the return of the dissolved parliament,” in which government loyalists constituted a majority, which means the invalidity of the current National Assembly elections, which are controlled by the Islamist and tribal opposition.

For its part, the Kuwaiti Constitutional Court, whose rulings are final, ruled to invalidate the current National Assembly elections and to restore the previous parliament, which was dissolved by the Emir of the country in December.

It is noteworthy that this ruling introduces the country into a new political crisis, as the Kuwait News Agency confirmed that the court whose rulings cannot be appealed, and therefore this decision leads to the return of the parliament, in which the government loyalists constituted a majority.

While Agence France-Presse confirmed, that the Constitutional Court “ruled to invalidate the entire election process that took place on February 2, 2022, and to invalidate the membership of the winners in it, due to the invalidity of the dissolution of the National Assembly and the invalidity of the voters’ call to elect the National Assembly, on the basis of which these elections took place, with the consequences of that, the most important of which are That the dissolved parliament, by the power of the constitution, restore its constitutional authority, as if the solution did not exist.
