The closing session of the military and security reform workshop in Sudan was held in the absence of the President of the Sovereignty Council and Army Commander Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, the Vice President of the Sovereignty Council and the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Muhammad Hamdan Hamidati, and representatives of the Sudanese army.
Sudanese military sources indicated that the army is not satisfied with the paper presented by the representative of the Rapid Support Forces in the security and military reform workshop, because it did not address the steps to integrate the Rapid Support Forces within the army.
The spokesman for the political process, Khaled Omar Youssef, said that the work of the specialized civilian and military committees in the military and security reform workshop will continue to discuss the general formulations and final recommendations of the military reform workshop in order to publish them for public opinion.
The Sudanese army issued a statement yesterday, Wednesday, in which it said that the armed forces are committed to the ongoing political process and that they thank all participants in the security and military reform workshop.
It is waiting for the work of the technical committees to complete the details related to the merger and modernization processes in order to reach a single national army that protects the democratic transition, according to the statement.
