After winning the run-off in the presidential elections, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke about Western media campaigns that targeted him personally, but he called on his people to unite and solidarity.
Erdogan said, amid a large crowd of his supporters in Istanbul, the largest Turkish city, that Turkey had succeeded in addressing restrictions, obstacles and intrigues, referring to what he described as “alliances formed over months.”
The Turkish president spoke about what he said was a “Western media campaign” that targeted him personally, pointing in this regard to the offensive news and cartoons published by French, German and British magazines.
Erdogan also referred to alliances formed against him at home and cooperated with terrorist organizations and delinquents, adding that he thanked God that “they did not succeed and will never succeed because this people has proven its maturity in all elections and in all events.”
At the same time, the Turkish president, who ensured staying in power for a new term, confirmed that he is keen to leave behind the differences and political disputes that emerged in the electoral campaigns, and calls for unity and solidarity, and believes that this is the right time for that.
Erdogan added, “These are not just slogans, but rather words emanating from the bottom of our hearts… and we know that we represent the people.”
