French activists and politicians criticized the European Commission’s Coordinator for Combating Hatred Against Muslims, Marie Lalisse, after she published a video clip in Arabic on the International Day Against Islamophobia, going so far as to describe her as an “enemy of Europe and subservient to Islam.”
Lalisse published a video clip on her Twitter account on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, in which she said that acts of violence and hatred against Muslims are not in line with the values on which the European Union was built.
Marie Lalisse added that acts of violence and incitement make Muslims feel insecure within the European Union, who are the largest religious minority on the continent, stressing the need to collect important and unbiased information against hatred and discrimination against the Muslim community.
The coordinator continued, “I know perfectly well the discrimination and harassment of Muslim women in Europe today, and this applies to some communities here, and I will work tirelessly with the help of civil society organizations for Europe.”
As part of the campaign of criticism against Lalisse, a prominent leader in the “Recover France” movement, Damien Rio, said that the European Union is going from bad to worse, as evidenced by its access to publishing videos in Arabic, although they are not approved within the union, according to him.
“I did not know that the Arabic language had become an official language in the European Union,” European representative Mathilde Androuet wrote on her Twitter account.
Another tweeted, “Do you really think that Muslim women are subjected to discrimination and harassment more than men? It seems that you have combined the conclusions of the Muslim Brotherhood’s reports on Islamophobia, and that you are their spokesperson,” he said.
