Statement on the military coup in Burkina Faso

Statement on the military coup in Burkina Faso

London.  October 1, 2022

The Morsi Foundation for Democracy, which previously condemned the coup of the Military Council in Burkina Faso on January 23, 2022, and its seizure of power in the country, is following up the current military coup against the previous coup, where the army forces in Burkina Faso announced the overthrow of the head of the ruling military council, Paul-Henri Damiba, dismissing the government and suspending the country’s constitution once again.

It is the same ugly path in military practices and bloody coups, which is followed by a coup upon a coup, which the Foundation warned of in its previous statement in January of this year.

Where the Burkina Faso coup began on January 23, 2022, when violence erupted in front of the presidential residence in the capital, Ouagadougou, and then in a number of military barracks. Troops arrested President Roch Marc Christian Kabore on January 24, the army announced on television that Kabore had been removed from the presidency but today the military turns against themselves in a new military rebellion, turning the country into a jungle without a constitution and law.

The Morsi Foundation for Democracy calls upon the free world to support the people of Burkina Faso to possess their will, the army to return to its barracks, and to leave politics to civilians to achieve what the Burkinabe people deserve from the will of governance, independence of the country and justice of the law.
