The Morsi Foundation for Democracy is closely monitoring the recent parliamentary elections in Bangladesh, which were held following a transitional period that came after the fall of the government of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and under the supervision of the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.
The Foundation welcomes the election results, which resulted in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, led by Tarique Rahman, securing a parliamentary majority. This outcome reflects the will of the Bangladeshi people to rebuild their political system on democratic and pluralistic foundations.
The Foundation also commends the democratic spirit demonstrated by the political forces, particularly the responsible position taken by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, which placed second under the leadership of Shafiqur Rahman. The party showed respect for the election results, as reflected in the notable gesture of its Amir visiting and congratulating the leader of the winning party and political rival, a scene that underscores a genuine commitment to the peaceful transfer of power.
The Morsi Foundation for Democracy considers these elections an important step toward consolidating the democratic process, strengthening political stability, and upholding the free will of the people of Bangladesh.
